教材に「ガンダムユニコーン」を選んだわけ

　本項ではタイトル通り「英語リスニング強化の教材になぜガンダムユニコーンを選んだか」を覚書します。多くの人にとって無意味、僕にとってもほぼ無意味なので読み飛ばしてもらっても一向に問題ないと思います。

【１】ガンダムが好きだった
　単純な話ですが、ガンダムユニコーンなら興味が続くと思って（そしてアメリカドラマを見ても興味が続かないので）選びました。というのは、１０代の頃はガンダムファンというよりは所謂富野フリークで、ダンバイン、ブレンパワード、キングゲイナー等を楽しんで視聴していました。また富野作品に限らず世代的に、エヴァ・ナデシコ・パトレイバー・マクロスプラス等々列記すればキリがないですが、９０年代ロボットＳＦを中心にアニオタライフを送っていました。

【２】もったいぶった表現を期待して
　特にロボットアニメは衒学的な意匠で凄そうに見せるのが重要なので、日本語でも数多くの晦渋な言い回しを学びました（例：「灰塵に帰す」fromエヴァ、「空疎な平和」from劇パト２）。ビジネスシーンでも使えるハッタリが効いた言い回しや、複雑な文法と単語を求めてガンダムユニコーンの視聴を選択しました。ガンダムはＺの「ダカールの日」のような演説シーンも見所の一つで、スピーチに使える表現を期待しています。

【３】ユニコーンを未視聴だった
　これも極めて明快ですが、ユニコーンを未視聴だったので選びました。というのも２００８年に妻とアニオタであった過去を隠して交際を始めた為、見る機会を逸したまま１０年近く経ってしまいました。出来が良いという評判は聞いていたので、これを機会に是非見たみたいと考えました。

【４】youtubeに英語吹替版が完全に揃っている
　記事執筆の１９年４月現在アメリカに滞在しているので、英語吹替版をyoutubeで無料で視聴可能です。そして、全エピソードが揃っています。Ｇガンダムなんかも幾つかアンオフィシャルでアップロードされているのを確認しましたが、幾つか抜け落ちているエピソードもあります。その点、ユニコーンは公式なので探す手間も省けるので都合が良かったのです。所々間違っていますが、自動生成のスクリプトも心強いです。

【５】３０分単位が都合が良い
　好きなハリウッド映画（インセプションとか）等を教材に選ぶ選択肢もあったのですが、大学の授業終了の１：００ｐｍから家に帰る４：３０ｐｍ位の時間を上手く使うには３０分単位のアニメは都合が良かったのです。ただ、ユニコーン終わってから次の教材選びではこのポイントは無視されるかもしれませんね。

　第一話を見た感じ、目論見通り期待していた要素を得られる気がします。このまま飽きずに続けて行きたいです。
